You may not recognize the name, but you know the talent behind it, and you’re sure to have already heard his enchanting way with a melody. Rodrigo Leão was one of the musicians and composers behind the extraordinarily successful Portuguese ensemble Madredeus; he was in the band for nearly 10 years before leaving to focus on his own solo career.

MUSIC
The Madredeus are one of the Portuguese musical groups of greater world projection.
His music combines influences of Portuguese popular music and fado, with erudite music and contemporary popular music.
PORCELAIN & GLASS
Vista Alegre is a Portuguese porcelain manufacturer. Influenced by the success of the Marinha Grande glass factory, Ferreira Pinto Basto decided to create a “porcelain, glass and chemical processes” factory. He started, in 1815, by acquiring the mansion Quinta da Ermida, in a region rich in the essential manufacturing elements of porcelain and glass, such as fuels, clay, white and thin sands and crystallized pebbles. The patent authorizing the operation of the Vista Alegre Factory was granted in 1824 by King D. João VI, benefiting of “all graces, privileges and exceptions enjoyed, or to be enjoyed in the future, by the National Factories”. Just five years later, Vista Alegre was granted the title of Royal Factory, to honor its art and industrial success. By May 2001, Grupo Vista Alegre joined with the Atlantis group and created the largest national tableware Group and the sixth in the world in this specialty.

FAIENCE
The factory was born from a project of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846 - 1905) . He was a Portuguese artist, draftsman, watercolor artist, illustrator, decorator , political and social caricaturist, journalist, potter and teacher. The production of the factory included tiles and building materials, utilitarian ceramics and decorative pieces, where "Art Nouveau " would manifest itself in a unique way. A serious financial crisis in the factory led to its bankruptcy in 1907 . Later, the son of Bordalo Pinheiro, Manuel Gustavo, continuing the work, in 1908 founded the Factory of San Rafael.
